adventures in babyfood making

So out of love for my child (or stupidity I havn't decided which just yet) I have decided to try to make my own babyfood so that I know there are no preservatives or chemicals! Usually I don't buy into the organic foods thing but when it is a little ity bity stomach that hasn't touched any food before I would really prefer that it not be packed with chemicals. So organic butternut squash here we come: Though the thought of putting squash ice cubes in a drink is quite unappetizing " Here you go honey a diet coke for you"..... could be one way to get Dave to eat some veggies around here....might have to try that. The pureed squash actually tastes very similar to sweet potatoes with a little more nutty flavor.... pretty tasty! The ice cube tray puts the babyfood into portions 1 cube=one meal! And then I just throw them in the freezer and can grab one as needed! So far so easy. But here is the best part:
As seen on TV items are really entising aren't they? I mean have you seen the commercial for this thing? It does everything and even comes with different cups to put your very own personal margharita in.....

but I bought it for babyfood making of course. I will update with how the squash goes over with the E man. So far oatmeal and rice cereal have apparently left alot to be desired in his six month old taste world. We pretty much end every meal with screaming and spitting. I'm thinking that might be alot of what my life is heading towards as a momma right? Might as well add some organic squash into the mix and make it orange spit.

Yes, you get all of those homemaker urges from your Mamma - right? The squash sounds good! I'll bet Eli will like it better than the cereal...but wait until he tastes peaches!

Oma hugs & kisses!

I LOVE my magic bullet! And, you can totally sneak those purees into Dave's food! I do, that is how the girls get veggies!!

Aww, yay!!! This is so good for him -- I'm really glad you got into it!! Still whipping up yummy recipes over here for Ava ... and she's still loving it! ;)

Tip: I always think I'm adding a lot of water, but really the more water you add the better b/c the texture then gets smoother & creamier. Ava tended to like it better that way (well, used to, now she likes it a bit chunkier). Just when I think I've probably added enough water, I'll add just a little more and it comes out perfect! After MUCH trial & error .... ;)

I made all our baby food, and it was great. It's fun to experiment, and what he doesn't like, you can defrost and use in recipes for you and Dave so nothing is wasted.
