Elijah's fourth birthday!

Elijah had a wonderful 4th birthday this year!!! He got to go with our neighbor Mr. Mike to see his helicopter! Mike is in the army and flies out of Rickenbacker airport here in Columbus and took Eli in the hanger to see all the helicopters and even got to ride in a golf cart around the building. It was really fun for Eli. Just him and Daddy went and had some good guy bonding time :). Then we had a family birthday party with pizza and of course pumpkin pie! Eli didn't request a birthday cake… oh no. This kid wanted pie. A boy after dads own heart :).

Elijah David my how much you have grown into yourself this year. Not going to lie to you; the threes were not my favorite…. but it is because of the struggles you and I have had over the last year that I can look at you today and see how much you have grown and become a boy this year. (And see how much grace God has given me as a mother!)
You are such a great big brother Eli. You love your little brother and really want to be around him. And now seeing you with your little sister telling her that you will "Ba- tect" (protect) her and always wanting to cuddle her really melts my heart.
Speaking of hearts you have such a sensitive and caring one. It is this same sensitive heart that is easily frustrated and easily hurt that makes you quick to want to befriend someone, and always want to include others in your play.  I am praying for this sensitive heart. My prayer is that you will use this sensing nature to see when others are hurting, and to care for those in this world that most don't care about. I know God created your sensitive and soft heart and I also know that he has big plans to use it.  Can't wait to see what is in store for you.
Elijah you are FAST! This year daddy and I have noticed your love for running! While your friends play on the play structures at playgrounds you ask us to time you as you play "marathon" and run circles around the playground! Daddy is so excited to get to go on runs with you in the future for "bonding time" and is even thinking you will be able to run around the block with him this year!
You have flourished in pre-school this year buddy. You are always happy to go into school no tears at all…. Unless you count the tears from mommy as you walked with your preschool bag all by yourself into the building that first day of the "drop off". You acted as if you were made for this… no big deal. A big boy now.  Momma had to wipe the puddle of herself off of the floor.  Your teachers say you are doing great in school and I have no doubt as we have seen you even starting some beginning reading! You are so smart.
Daddy and I notice that your vocabulary is really amazing and you continue to say really funny things that show us your little mind never stops. You are really interested in signs and now have almost every road sign memorized! You also amaze us that you know exactly how to get to most of our daily driving spots! You will say "this is the way to Avacakes house, or this is the way to Target!" So funny how you really are aware of where we are going.
You are so silly Eli. One of momma's favorite things to do with you is to turn up music really loud and have an all out dance party. You've really got some moves! You also have really gotten into telling us "stories" They always start with once upon a time, they usually involve a bear or a dragon and my very favorite there is usually a princess named mommy.
We love you so much Eli. I pray this year that you continue to grow and learn about the world around you. That you continue to grow into the young man that God has created you to be and that mommy and daddy would be able to teach and love you well.
